MUM TAKE ME HERE!

Welcome to Mum Take Me Here competition page. This is where you can access our 12 finalists and there trips by train in the UK. Family & Friends Railcard will be using all the nominations, to create an online UK travel tool. As all the days out will have been recommended by children, the tool will be the perfect place for families to go when they need inspiration for things to do as a family.

The competition has now closed and Family and Friends Railcard is proud to announce the winners of its Mum Take Me Here competition to find the best day out by rail in the UK. Our three fantastic winners are:

Jonathan James Watson visited London

My day trip to London. My Mum took me on my best day out. I like going on trains so Mum said we could buy a day travel card to London and spend the day seeing all the sights and trying out all the transport. London is a great place to visit as you can get everywhere by underground, bus or boat and walk. We got the train from Tring to Euston station and then the underground. Mum took me to see Eurostar at St Pancras. I would love to go on that. We went to Borough Market and a man made us a sandwich just how we wanted it. We then sat by the River Thames and had a picnic. We went on the underground to Canary Wharf and got the Docklands light railway to Greenwich. That was a lot of fun, there is no driver and you can sit right at the front of the train. We then got a fast boat back to Tower Bridge - it was fantastic! There are so many great things to do and see. I hope we can do it again soon. From Jonathan. Note- Jonathan is a special needs child. He had help with writing and spelling.

Matt Peakman visited London

In the Easter holidays we made a family trip to London. I loved the Harry Potter trolley at platform 9 and three quarters at Kings Cross, which was a really good start. We walked across London right the way to Piccadilly - it's great to see the sights and hear the sounds. We live in the country so it's very different from home. I went to Hard Rock cafe, where they let me hold Gene Simmons' axe guitar and Oasis' acoustic guitar and sing in Paul Stanley's microphone! We then went to Fortnum and Mason. It was really wonderful. The whole shop smelt of chocolate and I chose an Easter egg. Further along Piccadilly was the Japanese Centre, which had lots of Japanese food and gifts. I saw some Pokemon curry sauce and bought some Japanese toys. We then walked up Regent Street. The Apple store was great and I played on apps for an iPod. We looked into Hamleys, which was very busy. We then went to Covent Garden and saw some street entertainers. Last time we came I helped in a magic show but this time I just watched. We went to Forbidden Planet, where they sell some really unusual collectable toys and sci-fi things, and, after eating a real Chinese meal in Chinatown, we took in a show. We saw 'We will rock you' where we all sang along to the Queen songs! It was a long day and so we stayed in a hotel - I was exhausted!

Ffion Nelmes visited the Natural History Museum, London

My Mum, Dad, my brother who's 9 and me (I'm 11 by the way), went to London for the day. We set off from Aberystwyth train station very early in the morning. My Mum had packed us a picnic and we took some games to keep us entertained on the journey. We arrived at Euston train station and we went straight to the Natural History Museum. My Dad was really pleased because it was free to get in. My brother is obsessed with dinosaurs so he loved all the skeletons and fossils. He especially enjoyed the life-like T-Rex which roared at us. I liked going up the escalator through the Earth. I collect crystals and rocks so I loved seeing hundreds of different kinds. My Mum liked the diamonds and precious stones too. My Dad's favourite part was the earthquake. You stood in a pretend Japanese shop and then the whole floor shook and moved like a real earthquake. It was fun! We went to the shop and I bought a crystal set and my brother bought a dinosaur. But only a toy one!! We had a brilliant day and we would like to go back again.
